This endorsement is designed to prepare teachers to be effective users of technology. It is not intended to develop skills in computer repair, network maintenance or computer programming languages. This endorsement is only available to individuals who currently have or who are simultaneously getting an initial Ohio license/certificate e.g. in Early Childhood, Middle Level Science, Adolescent/Young Adult Social Studies, etc.). This endorsement can be completed with a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership without requiring additional courses. The program curriculum is guided by the International Society for Technology in Education's National Educational Technology Standards for Students, Teachers, Facilitators, and Administrators.
The Graduate K-12 Computer / Technology Endorsement (Technology Facilitation Endorsement) is intended for teachers who wish to serve as a technology integration mentor / facilitator for colleagues in their schools and districts. The endorsement also allows you to teach K-12 Computer Technology classes. Please read below for more information about what subjects this endorsement allows you to teach as a highly qualified teacher. The endorsement is obtained through an application process to the Ohio Department of Education and upon approval will be added to your teaching license. Because graduate level courses to obtain this endorsement are relatively new to most universities in Ohio, it would be advisable for the endorsement holder to explain the benefits of this endorsement to future employers and building administrators.

Once you complete 6 required courses for the application of Technology Facilitation Endorsement, you are eligible to apply for the Technology Facilitation Endorsement and take the Ohio Assessment for Educator (OAE) test. You should contact Dr. Brueck, Jeremy S.via jbrueck@uakron.eduor (330) 972-2673for the application of the test and the endorsement. Below are details and supports to prepare the application and the OAE test:

Procedures for applying for the K-12 Computer Technology Endorsement
Students who have graduated in previous years may also apply for the endorsement.
Complete the Technology Facilitation Endorsement Form:
a. Download the Technology Facilitation Endorsement Form here: - Word format or PDF format
b. Enter your name and the semester/grade information on the form.
c. Check your transcripts to determine if you have completed the required courses.
d. Send a copy of the form to your adviser, who will put this in your file in the Student Advising Office.
Complete the Endorsement Application Form: You should contact Dr. Brueck, Jeremy S. via jbrueck@uakron.eduor (330) 972-2673/
(234) 380-2424, Licensure Coordinator in the Office of Student Services, obtain the correct Endorsement Application from from Dr. Brueck, and complete the necessary information. A photocopy of your teaching license will be required. Submit all the application materials and the signed approval form to the Licensure Coordinator, Office of Student Services.
Does this endorsement allow me to teach additional subjects?
Yes- According to the Ohio Department of Education Certification and Licensure Dictionary and the Education Management Information System (EMIS) Manual, a teacher with any standard certificate/license and the Computer Technology Endorsement (111770) would be considered a Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) for classes that are coded by their local district under the subject codes below:
Individual school districts, not the State of Ohio or The University of Akron, determine the extent to which the endorsement is applicable to their needs and requirements. Please contact the local schools district or the Ohio Department of Education Office of Educator Licensure at (614) 466-3593for more information.
